Job summary

Ministry of Justice in Wales is seeking an Operational Support Grade on a fixed term contract for two years. You will help run a busy prison, performing patrols, gate duties, deliveries, visits and CCTV monitoring, with shift and night work.

You will be part of a close-knit team, supported by a generous leave package and access to pension, travel loans, discounts and an apprenticeship opportunity. The role requires flexibility and good English, with Welsh language ability noted where relevant.

Responsibilities

• gate/portal duties: ensure secure entry/exit; search staff, prisoners, visitors; issue/collect keys and radios
• control room: operate radio system; monitor CCTV; report suspicious activity
• visits: book visits; identify and process visitors; escort as required
• censors/correspondence: monitor/log mail; preserve evidence
• night duties: ensure cell doors are locked and prisoners accounted for
• reception: assist with tasks; photograph prisoners; collate property docs; inspect property
• prisoner supervision: oversee prisoners; assist with clothing/property exchange
• food delivery: service food trolley; may use electric tug vehicle
• driving duties: transport prisoners and escorts; collect mail
• phone calls: monitor PIN requests; log conversations; ensure numbers are registered to solicitors
• procedures and protocol: follow national/local policies; respond to incidents
