Job summary

Ministry of Justice is seeking an Operational Support Grade to help run a busy prison. Expect shift work, nights, and a 37-hour week, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.

You’ll perform a range of duties from gate access and prisoner visits to CCTV monitoring and administration of property and mail. The role involves working in a close team with responsibilities across control rooms, reception, prisoner supervision, and log/record keeping.

Qualifications

• English proficiency required for communication in English.

Responsibilities

• gate/portal duties: ensure secure entry/exit, search staff/prisoners/visitors; issue/collect staff keys/radios.
• control room: operate radio system and monitor CCTV; report suspicious activity.
• visits: book visits and identify/process visitors; escort when required.
• censors/correspondence: monitor mail, report illicit items, preserve evidence.
• night duties: ensure cells are locked and prisoners accounted for.
• reception: support tasks, photograph prisoners, collate documentation, check property seals.
• prisoner supervision: supervise and assist with movement of prisoners.
• food delivery: deliver/collect meals using trolley/vehicle.
• driving duties: transport prisoners; collect mail from sorting office.
• phone calls: monitor PIN system; log requests; ensure numbers registered to solicitors.
• protocol: follow national/local policies and emergency procedures.
