Job summary
SSEN Transmission, part of SSE, is seeking a Principal Engineer – Transformers to define policy, influence standards and support innovative projects across the high‑voltage network in Scotland. You will own transformer specifications, review tests and advise on supplier suitability, while contributing as SME in design reviews.
Ideal candidates hold an Electrical Engineering degree with Chartered Engineer status and have extensive experience in grid transformers, HVDC transformers, and related
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards it.
- Expert-level experience in transmission voltage wound plant and transformers.
- Ability to assess issues, evaluate solutions and apply design, planning and maintenance knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Write, maintain and own technical specifications for electrical wound plant and transformers.
- Review and update specifications based on projects and technology developments.
- As Technical Authority, review test plans and supplier suitability for transmission network use.
- Witness transformer testing, perform technical audits and contribute to design reviews.
- Provide technical consultancy across SSEN Transmission and represent the company at industry bodies.
