Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead the design and delivery of structural solutions for hydropower and dam infrastructure across the UK. You will guide the full lifecycle from concept to construction support, mentoring teams and ensuring regulatory compliance.

You will deliver concrete, steel and masonry designs for energy projects, conduct inspections, and produce high-quality reports to inform asset improvement programs while advancing our technical capability and client

Qualifications

• BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering is required or equivalent.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or actively working towards ICE or IStructE accreditation.
• Strong experience in structural engineering design across infrastructure sectors, ideally hydropower and dam projects.
• Proficiency in structural analysis, numerical modelling and hand calculations.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and providing technical oversight to engineers and technicians.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Commitment to technical excellence, quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural engineering delivery of major energy projects and provide technical direction throughout project development.
• Prepare and review detailed calculations, technical reports and design packages for submission to regulatory authorities.
• Provide technical oversight, mentoring and guidance to engineers and technicians within project teams.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with relevant design standards, legislation and quality assurance processes.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement, promoting best practice in structural engineering design and delivery.
