Job summary

Egis is seeking a Principal Engineer (P&C) to lead and approve protection and control design submissions for UK National Grid and DNO projects. You will work with contractors and internal teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant HV designs across substations, transformers, and switchgear.

Experience in the UK electricity transmission/distribution sector is preferred. This home-based role requires UK travel and offers a competitive salary, discretionary bonus, 22 days holiday, PMI, pension,

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
• Proven experience in P&C design, design assurance or technical approval.
• Strong knowledge of HV infrastructure including substations, transformers, switchgear and HV cables.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess P&C design submissions for compliance.
• Provide feedback to address design gaps and risks.
• Approve final designs once requirements are met.
• Chair design review meetings with stakeholders.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
• Serve as primary contact between National Grid/DNO and Contractors.
• Collaborate with internal asset management and project teams.
• Identify safety, reliability and performance risks in designs.
• Ensure risk mitigation measures including HAZID and risk assessments.
• Maintain records of submissions, reviews and approvals.
• Prepare technical reports for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
• Monitor design quality and compliance; provide management feedback.
• Work within a structured project design process.
