Job summary

AECOM seeks a Principal Cable System Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. You will lead large-scale HV/EHV cable projects, drive technical excellence, and engage with senior stakeholders across the project lifecycle.

The role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of UK/IEC standards, and a passion for innovation in sustainable infrastructure. Hybrid working with flexible locations and a supportive environment awaits.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience as a technical leader in HV/EHV cable system design.
• Proven track record in design, specification and installation of complex cable systems.
• In-depth understanding of UK/International standards (National Grid TPs, IEC, CIGRÉ).

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of large-scale HV/EHV cable projects from concept to completion.
• Develop and oversee HV cable system designs and modelling.
• Provide input into installation methods, jointing, cleating, and system integration.
• Validate calculations for ampacity, short-circuit, EMC, and thermomechanical forces.
• Engage with clients and senior stakeholders, provide technical assurance and strategic direction.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Drive project execution, manage risks, interfaces and quality reviews.
• Mentor team and support capability growth in cable systems engineering.
• Support business development, proposals, and client presentations.
