Job summary

CHEP is seeking a Principal Firmware Engineer in a hybrid Manchester/Santa Clara setting to lead embedded software for tracking devices. You will shape firmware architecture, optimize for performance and power, and work with hardware, test, and cloud teams to deliver robust solutions.

Strong leadership and customer-facing insight are essential as you translate business needs into firmware features and coordinate across multiple teams, while guiding a growing firmware group.

Qualifications

• 8-12 years of embedded software development experience.
• Experience with embedded IoT firmware platforms (RTOS).
• Experience leading complex firmware features across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and own firmware features for tracking devices (GPS, Cellular, Wi-Fi/BLE).
• Drive architecture, performance, power, and security optimizations.
• Collaborate with hardware, test, and cloud teams for system integration.
• Lead code quality, documentation, and automated testing practices.
• Translate customer requirements into firmware features and improvements.
• Mentor and grow the firmware engineering team.
