Job summary

Recruit Mint Ltd in Peterborough is seeking a Principal Firmware Engineer to be the technical authority for embedded firmware across our smart metering product range. You will own architecture, lead complex development, and set high standards for the team.

This role combines hands-on firmware work with leadership, focusing on security integration, rigorous testing, and documentation. You will mentor other engineers and influence the firmware roadmap to support our growth.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience developing firmware in embedded C at senior/principal level.
• Proven track record owning firmware architecture and leading complex development.
• Strong maths background relevant to embedded systems.
• Experience with full development lifecycle from ideation to release.
• Ability to lead and mentor other engineers in a high-standards team.
• Experience incorporating cyber security into embedded products.
• Familiarity with metering specifications and device language standards.
• Degree in electronics, software, or related discipline; equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as senior technical authority for firmware across the product range.
• Lead firmware architecture and design in embedded C for metering products.
• Tackle the most complex new development and redesign tasks.
• Set firmware standards, processes and best practices.
• Integrate cyber security into firmware per directives.
• Develop firmware to metering specs and device language standards.
• Write and review test code and integrate testing into development.
• Work with Microchip toolchain and emulation environments.
• Mentor and guide other firmware engineers.
• Contribute to roadmap and influence product direction.
• Produce technical documentation.
