Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland is seeking a Principal Engineer (Physical Security) to lead strategic security capability in the Systems Engineering & Assurance discipline. You will define security governance, risk assessments and secure-by-design approaches for mass transit and rail projects, working with clients to shape security strategy and delivery.

The role requires strong experience in physical and personal security, with UK rail project exposure and membership in recognised security institutions.

Qualifications

• Experience in Physical Security management and security processes: governance, risk assessments, security strategy and requirements capture.
• Proven ability to apply Secure by Design, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation and blast design concepts.
• UK rail industry exposure with turnkey/mainline or mass transit projects.
• Memberships or qualifications from UK security bodies (e.g., CSyP, RSES, ICAO AvSec PM).
• Knowledge of project lifecycles and security integration within broader packages.

Responsibilities

• Define and direct the Systra approach to secure-by-design across projects.
• Lead business development with clients to define security strategy and directions.
• Design and manage physical security across projects with proportionate, sustainable solutions.
• Advise on Security overlay to project frameworks and assurance processes.
• Review deliverables to verify design meets security requirements and processes.
• Support development of physical security capability across Systra group and act as UK point of contact.
• Guide peers in implementing security processes, strategy and requirements.
• Prepare technical deliverables and assist in tenders and expressions of interest.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation (CDM).
• Manage project communications and responses.
