Job summary

SSEN Transmission is recruiting a Principal Engineer - Building Services to define technical policy and support future-ready projects across the transmission network. You will lead mechanical services design and validation, ensuring safety and reliability in our network.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status or dedication to achieving it, with extensive experience in mechanical services for critical facilities. A flexible-first, hybrid work model is offered across Scotland.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with Chartered Engineer status or pursuit thereof.
• Expert-level experience in mechanical services design, specification, construction, operation and maintenance in data centres, substations or industrial settings.
• Strong ability to assess issues, review solutions and apply national/international standards.

Responsibilities

• Write, maintain and own technical specifications for substation mechanical services and interfaces.
• Review and update specifications based on lessons learned, new tech and standards.
• Approve apparatus, ITPs, inspection records and witness tests within Technical Authority processes.
• Provide SME input to design reviews and ensure project proposals are fit for purpose.
• Share specialist knowledge, develop staff and represent SSEN Transmission at industry events.
