Job summary

TeacherActive is supporting a welcoming primary school in the Birmingham area to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Support / Learning Mentor. The role focuses on emotional wellbeing, behaviour, engagement and development, working with pupils who need additional pastoral support.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team, work five days a week during school hours, and help pupils overcome barriers to learning with patience and empathy.

Qualifications

• The ideal Pastoral Support / Learning Mentor will have relevant safeguarding awareness.
• Level 2 qualification in supporting teaching and learning or childcare.
• Experience with primary school or educational settings is desirable.
• Five days per week availability is required.
• Strong communication and safeguarding knowledge are essential.
• Ability to support pupils with social, emotional or behavioural needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group pastoral support.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Support emotional wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem.
• Help pupils develop strategies for managing emotions.
• Identify barriers to learning and assist pupils to overcome them.
• Support attendance, engagement and positive participation.
• Deliver targeted mentoring or intervention sessions as needed.
• Create a safe space for pupil concerns and maintain confidentiality.
• Collaborate with SENCO, pastoral leads and leadership.
