Job responsibilities
Job summary:
- - Provideleadership and management skills to enable the practice to meet its agreedaims and objectives within a profitable, efficient, safe and effectiveworking environment

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- - Ensuringquality of services to patients, visitors and staff.
- - Maximisingoperational and performance management standards
- - Keepabreast of current affairs and identify potential threats andopportunities
- - Contributeto practice strategy - formulateobjectives and research and develop ideas for future practice development
- - Developand maintain effective communication both within the practice and withrelevant outside agencies
- - Assessand evaluate accommodation requirements and manage development andexpansion plans
- Managepractice budgets and seek to maximise income
- Managepractice accounts; submit year-end figures promptly and liaise with thepractice accountant
- Monitorcash-flow
- Manageand monitor PAYE for practice staff and maintain appropriate records
- Managecontributions to the practice pension scheme and maintain appriaterecords
Human resources:
- Oversee the recruitment andretention of staff and provide a general personnel management service
- Monitor skill‑mix and deploymentof staff
- Manage staffing levels withintarget budgets
- Evaluate, organize and overseestaff induction and training and ensure that all staff are adequately trainedto fulfil their role
- Develop and implement effectivestaff appraisal and monitoring systems
- Support and mentor staff, both asindividuals and as team members
- Implement effective systems forthe resolution of disputes and grievances
- Keep abreast of changes in employmentlegislation
- Create a culture which fostersstaff involvement, is free from harrassment and bullying and respects thedignity and diversity of all staff
Organisational:
- DevelopPractice protocols and procedures, review and update as required
- Ensurethat Practice premises are properly maintained and cleaned and thatadequate fire prevention and security systems are in place
- Managethe procurement of practice equipment, supplies and services within targetbudgets
- Developand review Health & Safety policies and procedures and keep abreast ofcurrent legislation
- Arrangeappropriate insurance cover
- Ensurethat the Practice has adequate disaster recovery procedures in place
- Arrangeappropriate maintenance for practice equipment
- Adopta strategic approach to the development and management of patient services
- Raiseany safeguarding concerns and also ensure all admin staff are competentand able to do so
- Ensureservice development and delivery is in accordance with local and nationalguidelines
- Ensurethat the practice complies with NHS contractual obligations in relation topatient care
- Overseeor develop and manage an effective appointments systems
- Overseeor organise surgery timetables, duty rotas and holiday cover
- Routinelymonitor and assess practice performance against patient access and demandmanagement targets
- Developand implement an effective complaints management system

Information management and technology:
- OverseeIT implementation and modernisation
- Motivate,support and monitor staff in the use of IT

Health & safety:
The post‑holder will implement andlead on the full range of health and safety issues as defined in the practiceHealth & Safety policy, the practice Infection Control policy and publishedprocedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):
- Ensuringjob holders across the practice adhere to their individualresponsibilities for infection control and health and safety, using asystem of observation, audit and check, hazard identification,questioning, reporting and risk management.
- Maintainand up to date knowledge of health and safety and infection controlstatutory and best practice guidelines and ensure implementation acrossthe business
- Identifyingthe risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in away that manages those risks across the business
- Makingeffective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiate andmanage the training of others
- Usingappropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidyand safe way and free from hazards, and initiation of remedial /corrective action where needed
- Activelyidentifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards andinfection hazards immediately when recognised
- Keepingown work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, identifyingissues and hazards / risks in relation to other work areas within thebusiness, and assuming responsibility in the maintenance of generalstandards of cleanliness across the business in consultation (whereappropriate) with other sector managers
- Ensureinfection control training is undertaken by Practice Nurses
- Routinemanagement of own team / team areas, and maintenance of work spacestandards

Person Specification
Experience
- Proven experience in management within a healthcare or NHS setting
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities
- Sound understanding of HR, finance, and business management principles
- Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team
- Proficient in IT systems, including clinical and administrative software
- Commitment to delivering high‑quality patient care and continuous improvement
- Experience working in a GP practice or primary care environment
- Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Qualification in management, business administration, or healthcare management
- Experience in project management or quality improvement initiatives
