Job summary

Blackedge Consulting in London is seeking an Associate Director/Principal Power Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex power infrastructure for data centres and critical facilities.

You will lead studies, mentor engineers, manage client relationships and contribute to business growth while shaping Power Systems capability within a global engineering consultancy.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline required.
• Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership.
• Extensive experience in power systems design, analysis and delivery for data centres, utilities or critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead power systems design and analysis across data centre and critical power projects.
• Provide technical direction on load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and transient analysis.
• Oversee network design, resilience strategies and technical risk for delivery against programme and budget.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and act as technical contact for clients.
• Lead technical proposals, fee submissions and bid activities, contributing to client relationships.
• Mentor and develop engineers through design reviews and professional development.
• Influence engineering standards and development of the Power Systems capability.

Job description

Are you a seasoned Associate Director or a Principal Power Systems Engineer ready to take a leading role in designing the resilient electrical networks behind some of the world’s most critical digital infrastructure?

We’re working with a major international engineering consultancy and a leading provider of engineering design services to the data centre sector. The business is continuing to invest in its specialist Power Systems capability and is looking for an Associate Director to provide technical leadership across complex power infrastructure projects.

This is an opportunity to work on high-profile hyperscale, colocation and mission-critical developments while influencing technical standards, developing engineers and contributing to the growth of a specialist engineering function.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading power systems design and analysis across complex data centre, substation and wider power infrastructure projects.
• Providing technical direction on load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and transient analysis.
• Overseeing network design, resilience strategies and technical risk to ensure successful delivery against programme, budget and quality objectives.
• Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and acting as a trusted technical contact for clients and project stakeholders.
• Leading technical proposals, fee submissions and bid activities, contributing to client relationships and business growth.
• Mentoring and developing engineers through technical guidance, design reviews and professional development.
• Influencing engineering standards, methodologies and the continued development of the Power Systems capability.

We’re keen to speak with established technical leaders who can demonstrate:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
• Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards chartership.
• Extensive experience in power systems design, analysis and delivery within data centres, utilities, renewable energy or critical infrastructure.
• Strong expertise in power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and transient analysis.
• Proficiency in ETAP, SKM, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or comparable power systems software.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
• The ability to lead complex technical projects while contributing to commercial and business development activities.
