Job summary

Sustainable Infrastructure is seeking a Power Systems Engineer in Manchester to lead complex electrical power projects for data centres and critical infrastructure. The role combines technical leadership with client liaison across the UK and internationally.

You will guide studies, mentor engineers and drive technical excellence while delivering on time, within budget and with safety and quality at the forefront.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Active progress toward CEng or chartership.
  • Extensive experience in power systems design and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and delivery of complex power systems and substations.
  • Perform load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support proposals, bids and business development.
  • Review designs and manage technical risk to meet programme and budget.
  • Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence.
  • Contribute to standards and development of the Power Systems team.

Power Systems Engineer - Manchester

Location: Manchester, UK | Hybrid

About the Role

A leading international engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join its growing Manchester team. You'll play a key technical and leadership role delivering resilient electrical infrastructure for data centres, mission-critical facilities, utilities and other complex power projects across the UK and internationally.

As a technical lead, you'll influence projects from concept through delivery, lead multidisciplinary teams, manage technical risk, engage with clients and contribute to the growth of the Power Systems capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of complex power systems and substation projects.
  • Undertake and review load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and transient studies.
  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support proposals, bids and business development activities.
  • Review designs, manage technical risks and ensure programme, budget and quality objectives are met.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and support technical excellence.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, innovation and the development of the Power Systems team.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CEng or actively working towards chartership.
  • Significant experience in power systems design, analysis and delivery within data centres, utilities, renewables or critical infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of power system studies and electrical network design.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing client relationships.
  • Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar software.
