Job summary

X4 Life Sciences is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join its Birmingham team and deliver electrical design across healthcare, education, residential and commercial sectors. You will design infrastructure from 230V/400V through to 11kV, develop substations and 11kV networks, and support G99 applications while liaising with DNOs and site teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Power Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or related).
• Experience in engineering consultancy or similar environment.
• Experience with power systems software: ETAP, IPSA+, ERACS, DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Interest in a long-term career in power systems engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical infrastructure from 230V/400V through to 11kV.
• Design distribution substations and private 11kV networks.
• Undertake electrical distribution design up to 132kV.
• Carry out load flow and fault-level studies.
• Undertake protection and grading studies.
• Perform harmonic analysis and voltage stability assessments.
• Undertake insulation coordination studies.
• Design substation earthing systems.
• Develop HV cable routes and network designs.
• Design standby and peak-generation schemes.
• Support embedded generation projects (solar PV and wind).
• Prepare and support G99 applications with DNO liaison.
• Undertake arc-flash assessments.
• Carry out site surveys, investigations and inspections.
• Produce technical reports, specifications and drawings.
• Liaise with contractors during project delivery.
• Attend sites during installation, testing and commissioning.
• Provide specialist power systems advice to wider teams.
• Participate in design-team meetings and client presentations.
• Review contractor designs and installations.

We are looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join a growing Power Systems Engineering Team within an established engineering consultancy.

This an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of technically challenging projects across sectors including healthcare, education, residential and commercial.

The role offers excellent breath across the power systems discipline, combining detailed technical design and analysis with client engagement, site work and project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing:

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing electrical infrastructure from 230V/400V through to 11kV
• Designing distribution substations and private 11kV networks
• Undertaking electrical distribution network design up to 132kV

About You:

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in power systems and a desire to develop their technical expertise.

Ideally, you will have:

• A degree in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Previous experience working within an engineering consultancy or engineering environment
• Experience using power systems software such as ETAP, IPSA+, ERACS, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar
• Experience with AutoCAD
• Revit experience would be advantageous, but is not essential
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• A proactive approach and willingness to learn
• An interest in developing a long-term career within power systems engineering
