Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Manningtree for a 24-month fixed-term contract. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot across your local area, on a rotating shift. A full manual UK driving licence (6 points max) is required.

You must be physically fit to walk long distances, work Sundays, and enjoy working outdoors and independently. Royal Mail provides full training, pension and wellbeing support.

Qualifications

• A valid manual UK driving licence (from UK) with up to 6 penalty points.
• Physically able to walk long distances and handle 10kg+ mailbags.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Reliable, self-motivated and well-organised in a busy environment.
• Comfortable working outdoors, in all weather, and on a rotating schedule including Sundays.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (24 Months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 10:00/16:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
