Royal Mail Group in Braintree is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract for 9 months, delivering letters and parcels with a Royal Mail van and on foot across your local area. The role is 30 hours per week with weekend work on a rotating schedule, and overtime may be paid.

You'll be trained, provided with a uniform, and join a team that values reliability, customer service, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:00am/12:00pm/14:30pm/21:00pm

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Bury St EdmundsDelivery Office 1 every 4 weeks from 9:00 to 16:00

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
