Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Sittingbourne is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers as part of a busy, outdoor role.

The position includes 28 hours per week on a rotating schedule, with some weekends and an opportunity to earn overtime. Training is provided, and you will work from the Sittingbourne Delivery Office with a red Royal Mail van.

Qualifications

• Full UK manual driving licence required (max 6 points).
• Ability to pass a driving assessment for Royal Mail vehicles.
• Physically fit to walk long distances and work outdoors.
• Reliable and self-motivated with strong organisational skills.

Location: Sittingbourne Delivery Office, ME10 4AA

Job type: Fixed Termcontract(6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 28:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 14:00/20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at SittingbourneDelivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
