Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in London. The role involves delivering letters and parcels on a rotating schedule, with weekend work and 30 hours per week. Full training is provided, including a uniform and a red Royal Mail van.

You will walk, drive, and carry mail across routes, building relationships with customers while working in all weather. This is a fixed-term contract with overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Physically fit for walking long distances, lifting 10kg+ mailbags and outdoor work.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently in all weathers.
• Strong organisational skills and resilience in a busy, time-driven environment.

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:30 & 13:00/14::30 & 20:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
