Job summary

Royal Mail in Richmond is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in your local area.

You must have a full manual UK driving licence and be comfortable working outdoors, five days in seven, with weekend shifts and overtime where available. Training and a uniform are provided.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit for long walking and lifting 10 kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and well-organised in a busy environment.

Location: Richmond Dl Delivery Office, DL10 4TE

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30/15:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work Sundays as per the rota.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
