Job summary

Royal Mail in Haverhill is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract of 9 months to deliver letters and parcels. You’ll work 37 hours per week, 5 days in 7, including Sundays at Cambridge, with overtime available and a £13.68 per hour rate.

Full training provided and you’ll operate a Royal Mail van on routes across the local area. The role is outdoor, physical, and requires a clean driving record, a full manual UK licence, and the ability to work in all weather

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday with 2 rest days - 07:30/16:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Cambridge Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
