Job summary

Royal Mail in Sidmouth is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot across your local area, and engage with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern, with Sundays at Exeter Mail Centre. You will receive full training, a uniform, and a trusty red van, and you must hold a full UK driving licence, be physically fit to walk long distances, and lift mailbags.

Job description

Location: Sidmouth Delivery Office, EX10 8TP

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37.00 hours per week – working 4 or 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday on rotational demand

Monday to Saturday hours: 07:00 - 15:45 / 09:40 - 18:00

Sunday hours: 11:00 - 18:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
