Job summary

Royal Mail in Brecon is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our team on a fixed-term contract of 9 months. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, work a 30-hour week across 5 days in 7, and may include weekend shifts.

You'll be outdoors in all weather, build relationships with customers, and enjoy the routine, structure, and community-focused nature of the role. A full UK driving licence and reliable, customer-friendly approach are essential.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points) registered to your current name and address.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated.
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment.
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service.
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently.

Location: Brecon Delivery Office, LD3 8NU

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 8:00/17:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:
