Royal Mail in Wincanton is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract, paying £13.68 per hour with overtime and monthly pay. You'll work 37 hours per week, 5 days in 7 with weekend work and seasonal shifts; routes include delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot in the local area.

The role is outdoors, fast-paced and physically demanding; full training is provided, and you'll need a manual UK driving licence (max 6 points) and the ability to pass a driving

Job description

Location: Wincanton Delivery Office, BA9 9ZZ

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – start times between 08:00am & 10:00am/finishing times between 15:00pm & 18:00pm* You will be required to be flexible to cover 8 hour shifts.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work around 1 in 6 Sundays at Yeovil Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
