Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Wickford is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 9-month contract. The role involves delivering letters and parcels in Wickford, sorting at the depot, and working outdoors with a rotating shift schedule.

You must hold a full UK driving licence, be comfortable driving a Royal Mail van daily, and be physically fit to walk long distances and lift mailbags. Saturday/Sunday work may be required.

Location: Wickford Delivery Office, SS11 8AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:00 to 14:30 or 15:30 to 22:00.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
