Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Peterhead is seeking a part-time Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9‑month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, serving the local community with a rotating shift including weekends.

Role requires a full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness for long walking and driving, and reliability. Training is provided and overtime is paid. The position is based at Peterhead Delivery Office.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 25:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00am/20:00pm*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand. You may also be required to work out of local delivery offices during the busiest periods.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

**As a Postie, you’re expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
