Job summary

Royal Mail in Manchester is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels in the local area on a 33.5-hour week. The role is a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with a rotating shift including weekends. Training is provided, with a red Royal Mail van and uniform supplied.

Location: Manchester South West Delivery Office, M16 7QA.

Job type: Fixed term contract 6 months.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 33.5 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:15 - 15:00*.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Manchester Mail Centre, M4 5AA.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
