Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Salford is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday, with weekends included, and Sundays at Salford Delivery Office.

Applicants must hold a full UK manual driving licence, be physically able to walk long distances and lift mail, pass a driving assessment, and enjoy working outdoors.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00/14:30*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays between 11:00/17:00 at SalfordDelivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
