Job summary

Royal Mail in Widnes is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join the Widnes Delivery Office. You will deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, working 30 hours per week across five days, with weekend duties on a busy, active route.

We offer full training, a full manual UK driving licence, and the chance to serve the local community while working outdoors in all weather with structured routes and a supportive team.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.

Location: Widnes Delivery Office, WA8 6AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00-18:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 11:00-17:00 Sundays at St Helens delivery office on a rota basis.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
