Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Cheadle is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 9-month fixed term contract. You will work 33 hours per week on a rotating shift, including weekends, delivering letters and parcels in your local area.

You will operate a Royal Mail van daily, walk long distances, and meet customers while working outdoors. Full UK driving licence and ability to pass a driving assessment are required.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills, and lifting/carrying 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated with good organisation and resilience.
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service and working outdoors independently.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 33:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:30/15:30*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays on a rota basis.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
