Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Thirsk is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join the team, delivering letters and parcels across the local area. You’ll be active, working outdoors in all weathers, and building relationships with customers while representing a trusted service.

The fixed-term role lasts six months with a starting rate of £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) plus paid overtime. Shifts start early and rotate across 5 days in 7, with full training provided.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment

Job type: Fixed Term contract (06 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 06:00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:45/15:45*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated

• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
