Job summary

Royal Mail Group is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Thurso for a fixed term contract. You will rotate shifts, deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, and build customer relationships across the local area.

Training and a uniform are provided, with a Royal Mail van to drive and full driving duties daily. This role is outdoor and fast-paced, requiring physical fitness, reliability, and independence.

Qualifications

Job description

Location: Thurso Delivery Office, KW14 7AL

Job type: Fixed Term, contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 24:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 10:00am/17:00pm*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
