Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at the Tain Delivery Office (IV19 1DJ) on a fixed-term contract for 8 months. The role involves delivering letters and parcels, walking long distances, and driving a Royal Mail van outdoors in all weathers.

You’ll work a rotating shift schedule, 25 hours per week across 5 days in 6, with some weekends and possible overtime. A full manual UK driving licence and ability to pass a driving assessment are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated with good organisational skills and resilience.
• Customer-focused and able to work outdoors and independently.

Location: Tain Delivery Office, IV19 1DJ

Job type: Fixed Term contract 8 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 25:00hours per week – working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday - 08:30am/13:30pm*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work out of another very local delivery office during the busiest periods.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
