Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Tain is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term role of 8 months, delivering letters and parcels in the local area. You’ll work 25 hours per week on a rotating shift, including weekends, with a Royal Mail van and full training provided.

A full manual UK driving licence is required; you must be physically fit to walk long distances, lift mailbags, and work outdoors in all weather. Overtime is paid and benefits include a pension and wellbeing support.

Location: Tain Delivery Office, IV19 1DJ

Job type: Fixed Term contract 8 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 25:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday - 08:30am/13:30pm*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work out of another very local delivery office during the busiest periods.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
