Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Reading is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You’ll deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot across Reading, with a 30-hour week spread over 5 days in 7, outdoors in all weather.

You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit to walk long distances, and able to pass a driving assessment. You’ll work independently, stay connected with the community, and you’ll receive full training, a uniform, and a red Royal

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 8:30/15:00*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances , climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
