Job summary

Royal Mail in Wokingham is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract. The role involves delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot, working outdoors in all weathers, and building relationships with customers. Shifts are rotating, including some weekends, with a 30-hour week and 09:00–15:00 hours.

You’ll receive full training, a uniform, and a Royal Mail van, plus benefits. A full manual UK driving license and ability to pass a driving assessment are required.

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00/15:00*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
