Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Coleford is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 9-month role at the Coleford Delivery Office. The position is 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday with a 08:30–14:30 shift pattern and rota-based weekend work.

You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weathers. Full training and a uniform are provided.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances
• Able to lift 10 kg+ mailbags

Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:30/14:30*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work one in four Sundays at Lydney Delivery Office 11:00/17:00

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
