Job summary

Royal Mail is recruiting for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at the Cinderford Delivery Office. This 30-hour per week, fixed-term contract role involves a rotating shift pattern, with some Sundays, and a 7-day cycle across Monday to Sunday.

You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build strong relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weather conditions. Full training is provided; a full UK manual driving licence is required and you must pass a driving assessment.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and well-organised in a busy environment.

Job description

Location: Cinderford Delivery Office, GL14 2NQ

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hours per week – working 6 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday for five weeks and sixth week off – 07:00 - 15:30 and 11:00 - 19:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in four Sundays at Lydney Delivery Office working between 11:00/17:30

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
