Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Gloucester is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract to sort letters and parcels and deliver by van and on foot in the local area. You will build relationships with customers and work outdoors in all weather as part of a rotating schedule, including some weekends.

Applicants must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points) and be able to pass a driving assessment.

Location: Gloucester North Delivery Office, GL3 4EE

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 32:30 hours per week - working 6 days in 7 for five weeks and the sixth week off across Monday - Sunday - 14:00/20:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work five in six Sundays at Gloucester North Delivery Office working between 11:00/17:30

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

**As a Postie, you're expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
