Job summary

Royal Mail in Newbury is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 6-month fixed term contract, working 35 hours per week across a 5-day, 7-day rota. You’ll deliver letters and parcels, walk long distances, and operate a Royal Mail van while serving the local community.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness, and reliability. Training is provided, with weekend shifts and paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:00/16:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays at Newbury Delivery Office on a rota basis currently 1 in 6 between 09:00 - 16:30

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
