Job summary

Royal Mail in Millom is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating schedule, including weekends. You will work 27.50 hours per week across 5 days in 7, with Sunday shifts at Barrow in Furness Delivery Office.

Full training is provided. You’ll be outdoors daily, driving a Royal Mail van, and building customer relationships while staying active in the community.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 27.50 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 9am/16:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 12:00-18:00 Sundays at Barrow in Furness Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
