Job summary

Royal Mail in Hayle is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 6-month assignment. You will sort parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers across the local area.

The role is outdoors in all weather, requires a full manual UK driving licence, ability to pass a driving assessment, and a fit, reliable and self-motivated attitude. Training is provided with a uniform and a red van.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence is required (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances and lift mailbags.

Location: Hayle Delivery Office, TR27 4AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30/16:30*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
