Job summary

Royal Mail Group is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Haddington to sort and deliver letters and parcels across the local area. You’ll work a 30-hour week on a rotating shift pattern, including Sundays, with training provided and a daily van to use.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness for long walks, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather. You’ll join a team focused on reliable, customer‑facing service and community presence.

Location: Haddington Delivery Office, EH41 3AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 10:00/16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
