Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Dalkeith is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our team. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot in your local area, building strong relationships with customers and working outdoors in all weather.

This fixed term role covers 9 months with rotating shifts, including weekends. A full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness, and a willingness to drive a Royal Mail van are essential.

Job type: Fixed Term contract(9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 0945/1645*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
