Job summary

Royal Mail in Dursley is seeking a Delivery Officer to sort letters and parcels, and to deliver post by van and on foot in your local area. You’ll build relationships with customers and work outdoors in all weather, with a 30-hour week and shift times from 09:00 to 15:00.

Full training is provided, a full manual UK driving licence is required (up to 6 penalty points), and you must be physically fit to walk long distances, lift mailbags, and work across five days.

Qualifications

• Must be physically fit to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and customer-focused.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather and manage time effectively.
• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to work 5 days across Monday-Sunday, 09:00–15:00.

Job type: Permanent

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – working between 09:00/15:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
