Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Cheltenham is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term nine-month contract. The role involves delivering letters and parcels, starting at 07:00 with a 37-hour week across Monday to Sunday, including two in four Sundays.

Training is provided and you will work in all weather conditions. Your duties include sorting mail, delivering by van or on foot, and building relationships with customers.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work two in four Sundays at Cheltenham Delivery Office between 09:00/17:00.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
