Job summary

Royal Mail Exeter is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 9‑month assignment in Exeter. You’ll deliver letters and parcels on a rotating schedule, outdoors in all weathers, and will walk long distances while driving a Royal Mail van.

You’ll work 35:20 hours per week over five days in seven, with some weekend work and occasional Sundays at Exeter Mail Centre. Full training, uniform, and a red van are provided.

Location: Exeter Rurals Delivery Office, EX2 7XX

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35:20 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 06:30/15:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in four Sundays at Exeter Mail Centre working between 11:00/18:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
