Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Bridgwater is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our local delivery team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will sort letters and parcels at the delivery office and deliver post by van and on foot in your area.

You will work a 37-hour week on a rotating schedule, including Sundays, with overtime paid. Full UK driving licence required; you’ll be outdoors in all weather and build strong relationships with customers while supporting the community.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract(9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available
Working hours: 37.00hours per week - working5days in 7 days across Monday - Sunday

Monday to Saturday Hours:07:24 and 15:24

Sunday Hours: 10:56 and 19:00

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
