Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Bristol. You’ll deliver letters and parcels, walk long distances, and drive a Royal Mail van on a rotating schedule, including some Sundays.

Full training provided; you must be physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather. The role is fixed-term for 6 months with overtime and 37 hours per week.

Location: Avonmouth Delivery Office, BS11 9EY

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37:00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:00/14:30 and 10:00/18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in four Sundays at Bristol NorthDelivery Office working between 11:00/18:00

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Strong Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
