Job summary

Royal Mail in Ashford is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van or on foot in the local area, and build relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

The rota includes weekends and Sunday afternoons on rotation, with a 30-hour week and an 8:00–20:30 schedule. Full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills and lift 10kg+ mailbags

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00 - 15:00/14:00 - 20:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
